Sep. 11th, 2010 01:23 amFry shines his Form Captain badge before going into the class. His reign seems to be going well so far; while there's not a lot of authority to exert in a class of only six, Candy and Nimesh seem to be settling in okay, and that's part of his job too.
Mrs Carter is waiting with a new kid, a tall and muscular lad of about fifteen, with a deep scowl on his face. He was supposed to come at the start of the week, but Fry knows a few kids resist coming.
"Simon, this is Fry, our form captain. Fry, can you look after Simon while he settles in, please?"
"Yes Mrs Carter." Fry says, though he feels a little ominous about it. He takes Simon out towards the playground.
"What kind of name is Fry?" Simon asks, looking at Fry with distaste.
"It's a nickname, my first name is Alexander." Fry says.
"It's a stupid nickname." Simon says. "And you're supposed to be 'form captain'? What are you, ten?"
"Twelve." Fry says. "It's not done on age."
"Yeah, well you won't be bossing me around, Fishface." Simon says.
"It's Fry." Fry says.
Simon gives a large, exaggerated sigh, then turns and leans down towards Fry's face.
"You know, everyone makes excuses for me. My parents, my brother, my psychologist. They give it fancy names like 'problems socialising'. But you know what? It's bollocks. I just don't like annoying kids. So unless you want your face reshaping, you stay out of my way."
He pushes Fry out the way and goes out into the playground, striding over to the older kids. Fry watches him attempt socialisation with Lenny, then a bunch of the seniors. He's very in their face, and they soon shoo him away. In the end he settles for James, talking at him non-stop while James stares across the playground, mostly ignoring him.
"Who's the dickhead?" Lenny asks, coming over to Fry.
"Simon, new kid." Fry says, wondering if he should rescue James. "I was supposed to show him around, but apparently he doesn't think I'm worth his time."
"I'm going to go and hack his file, want to come?" Lenny offers.
Fry stares at him. "You can't do that."
"Of course I can, it's not difficult." Lenny says, heading off towards the science lab. Fry follows after him.
"Yeah, but I wouldn't like it if you hacked my file, and you wouldn't like it if anyone hacked your file."
"Nobody else in here is capable of hacking my file." Lenny says, missing the point.
He leads Fry into the science lab, checking that none of the teachers are watching. He logs into the computer using Mrs Carter's login details.
"How did you know that?" Fry asks.
"It's not rocket science, she only has two cats." Lenny replies, hacking away into the school records system. It takes about five minutes for him to find and break into Simon's file. He opens the psychological report and has a look.
"Yuk, nightmare." he comments, looking back at Fry.
"Why?" Fry asks, peering over. Lenny points to the string of question marks in front of various diagnoses.
"Little kid gets dragged off to some shrink, who spends ten years trying to decide what label to give them." Lenny says. "Conclusion: diagnoses obscured by the fact that he's also a dick."
"Does it actually say that?" Fry asks.
"They're not allowed to, but you can tell by the way it's written." Lenny says, opening another file and whistling. "Four expulsions, criminal record, last chance before some sort of Borstal."
He looks back at Fry.
"Stay clear of this guy Fry. He's been using his diagnosis to justify being a bully, and he's spent a long time in schools that don't know any better. My guess, he's used to getting away with it."
There is a sound in the corridor. Lenny grabs Fry and pushes him down behind the bench. Before he can protest, Mrs Carter appears in the doorway. She goes over to Lenny. Fry manages to crawl around the bench out of sight.
"Lenny, you shouldn't be in here." she says, frowning at the screen. "What did you just close?"
"Pornography." Lenny says.
"Lenny! You can't do that in school, you know better than that." She moves over. "Log off now, please."
Lenny logs off. Mrs Carter's eyes widen.
"You were using my login details? Head's office, now!"
Fry winces and keeps very still. Lenny needs to be more careful to stay out of trouble. He's still not sure what to do about Simon; it's important to give people a chance around here, but he doesn't want his head kicking in.
He waits until Mrs Carter has disappeared, then slips back into the playground.
