Feb. 23rd, 2016 09:11 pmIt was some comfort to see the boys who squirted him with freezing water get told off by their teacher.
"You've let yourselves down, you've let the school down... picking on a little special needs boy, and he's so much smaller than you! You ought to be ashamed of yourselves..."
Fry watches as the boys come up and mutter a half apology. He remembers what he was told about this probably not being over, but it seems that the teachers decide to keep the two parties apart for the rest of the day.
He half wonders if Mr Irons will tell him off too. He hates the idea that he might have let the school down. But Mr Irons keeps it very simple.
"Those boys were angry with you because you found fault with them." he says. "That's why they took you outside and sprayed you with the hose. Next time if someone else is naughty, tell a teacher." Then, seriously, he adds. "And don't go off with strangers on your own, even if they're kids."
Fry nods, and then makes a note of it. Mr Irons advises him to try and enjoy the rest of the trip, so he goes back outside with Teddy and together they join the class at an outside barn where everyone is feeding orphan lambs.
"Bethany!" Mr Irons calls out. Fry looks out to see her climbing into one of the pens. "Don't climb in there, you'll frighten the lambs. Wait your turn."
When it's Fry's turn, the farmer helps show him how to hold the bottle so that the lambs don't get wind. Then he offers the bottle to a little black lamb, which feeds with enthusiasm.
And that was the best bit of the trip.
As they get on the coach to go home, Fry notices Bradley abandon his wheelchair in order to work his way to the back to sit with Tommy and Jamal. So it looks like they're good again. He sits at the front, but he hears his name being called.
"Teddy, Fry!" Tommy waves. "You two can sing, come sit with us at the back."
"What are we singing?" Teddy asks, going down there.
"Coca cola makes you burp." Tommy says.
Fry hesitates, not sure if he wants to move seats, because this is his seat. But Teddy is waving him over to a spare seat and he moves over there as Tommy starts.
'Coca cola, coca cola
makes you burp, make you burp
have another bottle, have another bottle
burp burp burp, burp burp burp!'
"We do that one at Beavers." Fry says. "You can do it as a round."
"You can? Mind blown." Tommy says, getting them all to do it again.
After a couple of rounds, Fry decides it's too noisy back here, and wanders back to the front of the bus to sit with Noah. But it was nice to be asked.
