AU with Remy, Mtime+15

It's break time at Holby High, and class LVJ have just come out of PE.

The fifteen-year-old Brooke combines physical fitness with an attention to her personal appearance that differentiates her from her biological siblings. And as they come out of the gym, is still trying to get her springy hair back into a ponytail.

"Shit, I lost an earring." she says, as her hand brushes her ear. "I'll see you in biology, Remy."

She sprints back inside.

Rahne, who is by now in the sixth form, is heading past in one of her custom home made dresses, and gives Remy a friendly wave before she goes into the science block.

"Oh my God, what is your cousin wearing?!" one of the girls in their class says. "You need to tell her that when you get to wear your own clothes, they're supposed to be cooler than the uniform."

Remy scowls a little at the girl, her tone immediately making proverbial hackles rise. She pauses in straightening her uniform's tie to turn to the girl fully.

"Lay off, Micah. She likes it, and it looks good. You're just in a snit because it's not designer."

Micah giggles.

"What's a 'snit'?" She shrugs. "I'm just saying. Don't your parents buy her clothes?"

"She's made some cool stuff in textiles though." One of the other girls says. "Like that bag on display in the art room? I think she won the textiles prize last year. I gotta run, I have German, see you Mickey."

"Are you going to come dressed like that in two years then?" Micah asks.

"Means you're bothered about it," she fires back. "And of course they get us clothes, she just likes to make her own."

The two girls begin conversing, and the takes the time to properly adjust her forgotten tie.

"Who knows. She may make me something I like. What do you care, anyway?"

"No need to get defensive." Micah says, shrugging. "I don't take responsibility for Justine's dress sense. That way she doesn't borrow my stuff."

Remy huffs and scrubs a hand through her hair before looking up at the girl again. She may no longer look like a stiff breeze will take her away, but she still is smaller than most the girls her age.

"Of course I'm going to take exception when you take shots at my family."

"Lighten up." Micah says. "Brooklyn bitches about Coral all the time. Though she did give her that essay so I kind of see her point."

Coral had been rather apologetic at having to give her sister a punishment essay; but being a prefect, and walking in on Brooke holding her tarantula while one of their class was screaming with terror wasn't really something she could ignore.

Micah kisses back, just for a second, then pulls away.

"What the hell are you doing?!" she pulls away, and hurries off into the science block.

"Did we have homework for biology?" Brooke asks, coming around the corner behind her.

Remy doesn't notice Brooke at first, instead watching Micah's retreating form with her heart hammering in her chest and a blush climbing up to her ears.

Brooke looks at her for a moment, then pokes her gently in the arm.

"Rem? S'only homework, we'll just say Fry put it in his briefcase by mistake or something."

The poke serves to snap the girl out of her stunned stupor, and she looks to her adopted sister, still flushed.

"Huh? Homework? No, we didn't have any."

"Oh, good. What's the matter then?" Brooke asks.

Expression serious, she frowns a little at Brooke.

"You can't tell mom or dad, okay?"

"Course I won't." Brooke says.

Unlike Fry or Coral, she has no qualms about even directly lying to her parents.

Nodding, she cants her head towards their classroom.

"Y'know Micah?"

"What did she do?" Brooke asks.

"It's more what I did, really..."

Beat.

"I kissed her."

"Oh." Brooke shrugs. "Not my taste personally. Also I'm not sure she swings towards girls."

She swings her schoolbag over her shoulder. "I have my eye on a girl from karate, you know, Ruby?"

"It seemed like the thing to do at the moment," she defends, sliding her hands into her pockets as they meander towards class. "And she kissed back, however briefly."

She grins. "Yeah, her? She's pretty."

"Well, I won't tell Mum and Dad, but they're not going to mind and they won't exactly be surprised." Brooke says.

Grin. "Ruby isn't just pretty, she kicks arse. It's cool having someone you can spar with as well as hang out with."

"What do you mean, won't be surprised?"

Beat.

"I imagine it is, if you're into those sort of things."

"Well I didn't have to tell them, but when Mum gave me the same sex talk, she already knew to say how it applies to girls." Brooke shrugs. "She just knew. She was probably waiting for you to feel comfortable."

"Ah."

She shrugs.

"I just want to have things not so jumbled up in my head before I tell them anything. I know they'll be okay with it."

Brooke smiles slightly.

"You're the same person you were yesterday, and the same person you'll be tomorrow. No matter what anyone says."

Remy grins, tugging her sister towards class.

"Exactly."
