Mar. 3rd, 2012 10:52 pmFry sits down in assembly, waiting for the headmaster to come in. To his surprise, and displeasure, Nigel sits down next to him.
"You sneaked on me." Nigel says.
"I didn't sneak on you." Fry replies, looking at him. "I told Mrs Carter that your brother bullies you, and that he set you up when you'd decided to have a ceasefire with me. So actually, I got you out of trouble."
"You're a nosy bastard." Nigel says, but without malice. "You're right though, Kevin did set me up the last time. I didn't really feel like picking on you any more but... I didn't want to look like a moron."
"You pick on people because Kevin picks on you." Fry says. "Right?"
Nigel hesitates, then nods.
"He said he'd kill me if I told. Mrs Carter told Mum, and she went totally nuts."
"But she took your side?" Fry asks.
"Hell yeah. Told Kevin if he couldn't pick me up from school like a civil human being, she'd confiscate his car." Nigel smirks.
"Good." Fry nods. "This ends here though. I've sorted out your home life, so you have to stop bullying people. I'm done fighting you, I'm going to the head if you don't stop it."
"Keep your pants on, I'm done." Nigel says, rolling his eyes.
"You better be." Lenny comments, coming to sit on Nigel's other side. "If I see you hassling Fry or Ollie or anyone else I'm going to personally kick your arse."
"You know, there's a lot of threats going on here for what's supposed to be a meeting of peace." Kathy comments, from the other side of Fry. "Why don't you just draw up a treaty and sign it? He said he was going to stop; if you go threatening Nigel then you're no better than Kevin."
The boys look at her with varying expressions of slight remorse, then nod agreement. There's no time for further negotiations anyway, since the headmaster takes the stage and delivers a timely message about how they all have to pull together because the outside world can be hostile enough at times.
When he comes to the notices, he gets their interest by announcing that the school will be holding a spring fair, which everyone will be encouraged to run a stall for. "Think of it as running your own businesses in teams." he adds. "We want you to do a business plan, work out what you are going to do and how much your profit and expenses are. You'll get points for teamwork and how much you make for charity, and there'll be a prize for the winning team."
"Can I be on your team?" Nigel asks, as they get up.
"I'm going to have to think about it." Fry says. "But that's not a no."
